Today's 1% Change: Eat Well At A Buffet

I have a three day offsite meeting for work this week at a hotel not far from my office. The first thing I think about when I have to go to one of these things is… what am I going to eat? Usually the food selections are not great. Especially the breakfasts, which are often nothing but pastries and maybe some sugary yogurt. And the lunches are a crap shoot as well. I recall one where the one and only choice was pasta. So I always debate whether to bring my own lunch with me or not.


This time I was fortunate. Kudos to the Hyatt House in Bellevue for providing a decent breakfast spread with real food! They had scrambled eggs (real ones, not the powdered egg crap) and bacon too along with some fruit.


For lunch it was some green salads and a make your own sandwich buffet. That works. Put the lunch meat on the salad greens or just make little all-meat rollups with the deli meat and some mustard. When I did this in the past I’d get funny looks… “What? No bread?” But the gluten-free movement has normalized not eating bread. Nobody said a word.


The only thing I messed up on was not packing a few snacks. Tomorrow I’ll take a couple Kind bars and some nuts and I’ll be set.
