Today’s 1% Change: Choose Good Snacks When You Travel

On this trip to Warsaw, I loaded up with Kind bars so that I’d have some decent snacks. I had so many that when I went through security in Paris, and had my bag opened by the security there, the security guy gave me a pretty funny look while he turned the bag full of Kind bars over 2 or 3 times. While I thought I’d brought enough to last me most of the trip, I ran out after less than a week.

 

Today I went to a grocery store that’s just across the street from my hotel to go snack hunting. While I didn’t expect to find Kind bars, I did expect to find a decent variety somewhat healthy snacks. After all, the food that I’ve been eating in restaurants has been really good, and eating pretty much Paleo hasn’t been too difficult.

 

Well the snacks are apparently a completely different thing. It took me 2 trips around the store to even find any nuts. Of course they had tons of cookies. And an entire row of candy bars. And another entire row of chips. Nuts? One very small section that was hidden in a corner of the store. I was able to find some bulk almonds and some nuts with dried fruit. That’ll do.

 

It’s kind of sad to see their grocery stores Americanized with tons of junk food.

 

When you’re traveling, it might be tough, but if you look hard enough, you can find some healthy snacks. Don’t settle for stuff like chips, candy and cookies that you’re trying to avoid at home.
