Today’s 1% Change: Always Choose Grilled or Baked Over Deep-Fried

I think most people realize that deep fried foods aren’t very good for them but they eat them anyway. And you can find just about anything deep fried these days… candy bars, ice cream, marshmallows, even deep fried hamburgers.

 

I know… Fried foods taste really good. Lots of things taste really good and aren’t good for you.

 

But it's not really a big deal right? It’s just kind of fatty and not good for you, right? I don’t think most people realize how bad fried foods really are.

 

If you’re eating fried foods at a restaurant, it’s almost guaranteed that the foods are all fried in vegetable oil. I’ve written about how nasty vegetable oils like canola, soy and corn oil are in general. They get much, much worse when heated to the high temperatures used in deep frying. Also, most restaurants don’t change out their oils very frequently so the oil goes from bad, to worse to horrible in a very short time.

 

Simply stated, the oil becomes toxic. Oxidized. In a way, rancid. Yes, you’re probably eating rancid oil when you eat fried foods at many restaurants.

 

And here’s the clincher: Fried foods significantly increase your risk of having a stroke. I don’t know about you, but I never want to have a stroke. I know people that have had them. It’s never good.

 

So always choose grilled or baked foods over fried. And as tempting as those french fries might be… just say no.
