Today’s 1% Change: You Don’t Need No Stinkin’ Detox

Detox diets, or “cleanses” seem to come and go in popularity. I’m not a big fan.

 

Most of them have the same theme: Eliminate stuff that’s bad for you and eat and drink things that are good for you. Do that for 5 days, or 7 days, or maybe a few weeks. Done!

 

So what have you accomplished by doing that for a few days? Isn’t eliminating the bad stuff and eating the good stuff what you want to be doing all the time?

 

Here’s what one 7 day detox diet plan tells you to do: Eliminate alcohol, cigarettes, milk products, sugars and artificial sweeteners and grains. Eat fresh vegetables and fruit, fresh fish and lean meats, eggs, olive oil and drink lots of water.  Well that’s about 80% of eating Paleo right there.

 

So if you’re eating Paleo foods you don’t need a detox. You’re getting your detox each and every day.

 

Yes there are a couple of things you can do to really help your liver, which is the real detox organ in your body: Every morning, squeeze half a lemon or lime in a glass of water and drink it. This really helps stimulate liver function and also helps with digestion.
