Today’s 1% Change: Cut Way Back on Sugar… Here are 5 Good Reasons

I know the picture’s a little dark. But what the heck… sugar is really bad for you. It’s hard to know how much sugar the average American eats these days. I’ve seen numbers anywhere from 80 pounds a year to 170 pounds. That’s a crazy amount of sugar to eat! And the main reason is that it’s added to just about all packaged, processed foods. And of course Americans drink a lot of soda, which is loaded with sugar.

 

Cutting back on or eliminating sugar from your diet has many benefits. Think about these the next time you want to reach for that donut, or soda, or piece of candy…

 

Sugar damages your skin: When your body processes sugar, AGE’s (Advanced Glycation End-products) are created. AGE’s damage the collagen and elastins in your skin. So if you want good skin as you get older, don’t eat sugar.

 

Sugar robs your body of nutrients: Sugar leaches nutrients from your body as it processes it. I’ve talked before about the importance of magnesium. Sugar saps that and other minerals from your body.

 

Sugar weakens your immune system: Finding that you catch colds really easily? Sugar weakens the effectiveness of your white blood cells for hours after you eat it.

 

Sugar is addicting. The more you eat, the more you want.

 

Sugar increases your risk of heart disease. A study published by the Journal of the American Medical Association showed a direct correlation between sugar consumption and increased risk of heart disease.

 

And a sixth bonus reason. Almost all sugar comes from GMO sugar beets.

 

So cut back on sugar… Cut way back.
