Today's 1% Change: Take a Break, Take a Walk

If you have an office job, and things are busy, it’s really easy to stay at your desk and eat lunch. You get more done that way, right? You’re multi-tasking, right?


Maybe there’s an urgent deadline coming up and you really need every minute of the day to get everything done. But in general, that’s not the case. You really should take a few minutes to get away from that desk and go for a walk.


It’ll clear your head and make you more efficient. Our bodies were meant to move, not sit in one position for hours at a time. Getting up and moving releases chemicals that open up your blood vessels and that includes those that go to your brain. I often find that new ideas pop into my head while I’m walking. I take notes on my phone to capture them right then and there because if I don’t, I usually forget them.


Walking relieves stress. Often our jobs are stressful. Taking a walk helps relieve that stress by releasing chemicals and hormones that simply make you feel better.   


Walking will help you lose weight. It’s more than just “burning calories”. As with any exercise, walking sends signals to your body that help you lose fat. If you want to lose weight, walking is one of the best ways to get started. And it’s easy!


So take a break and get out for a walk today!
